Payton Hat Crochet Pattern for American Girl or 18 inch Doll

Here is my Payton Hat pattern for 18 inch dolls! I did this one slightly longer than a normal hat to give it more of a slouchy feel. If you are wanting it even more slouchy you could always go up a hook size then back to the suggested size on the last four rounds. I used a large pom pom maker because the only others I had on hand were small and extra small.

Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn
H/ 5mm Hook
Pom- Pom Maker
Yarn Needle

Stitch Abbreviations:
Sc- single crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Dc- double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
Ch – chain

Notes:
       - The chain does not count as a stitch.
-     - Always join to the first stitch of each round.
-     - Always start your round in the same stitch as your chain.
-     - Here is a link to explain my working in the round method.
-     - If you feel the hat is coming out small or large, adjust your hook.
-     - Feel free to add or subtract rounds to your preference. Adding more rounds will also
        create a slouch style hat.
-     - The rounds are increased differently than a normal hat in order to create a puckered type
         look on the top.
-     - For the pom-pom I used the Blue Clover brand pom-pom maker from the large set.

Size: 18 inch doll
Start with a Magic Ring, Ch. 1,
Round 1: 9 HDC in ring, join, Ch. 1 (9 HDC)
Round 2: 2 HDC into each stitch around, join, Ch. 1 (18 HDC)
Round 3: 2 HDC into each stitch around, join, Ch. 1 (36 HDC)
Round 4: (2 HDC in first stitch, HDC in next 3) Repeat around, join, Ch. 1 (45 HDC)
Round 5 -14: (Sc, 2 Dc) in first stitch, * Skip 2 stitches, (Sc, 2 Dc) in next* Repeat around,  skip last two stitches, join, ch.1 (45 stitches)
Round 15-18: Sc in each stitch around, join Ch.1 (45 stitches)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Now create your pom-pom and add to the top of the hat!

Want to make a girl size just visit my Payton Pom-Pom Hat here! You just might need to add a couple more rounds to make it slightly slouchier.

Repeat  Tentacles 1-4 again which will give you 8 total. Fasten of leaving a long tail for sewing.

You will now be sewing the legs on to the bottom of the body lining up the magic ring with the closing round. I had the right side of the legs facing out when sewing. You can choose to either leave the legs curled or uncurl part of them. I chose to uncurl a little of each of them.
